To celebrate the International Year of Glass 2022, which was announced by the United Nations in 2021, a group exhibition will open at Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, exploring the significance of the material as an artistic medium. On loan from White Cube, Mona Hatoum’s Cells (2014) features red glass orbs suggestive of organs, trapped inside steel cages that recall prison cells. Drawing an incisive dialogue between materials, Hatoum encourages an examination of the power structures that control us.
