Christian Marclay has long worked with found materials, appropriating and transforming audio and visual media in the tradition of the readymade. His exhibition at White Cube Paris continues this inquiry, bringing together new monotypes and collages that return to the vinyl record – an object that has informed his practice for more than four decades. Working within the square format of record covers and sleeves, Marclay takes the printed paper and card packaging that houses a record as both material and image, attending to its surfaces, apertures and traces of use.
