Sarah Morris’s exhibition ‘Transactional Authority’ opens at Nakanoshima Museum of Art (NAKKA) in January 2026. Marking the artist’s first retrospective in Asia, the exhibition brings together arouns 100 works spanning three decades.

‘Transactional Authority’ features paintings, drawings, all 17 of Morris’s films, including the premiere of Chris Rock (2025), as well as a newly commissioned large-scale wall painting. Works relating to Japan are included, among them the 2018 film Sakura, shot in the Kansai region over a three- to four-day period during the Sakura blossom.

The exhibition further develops NAKKA’s longstanding relationship with the artist, as it was the first museum in Japan to hold several of Morris’s works for its collection.
