The High Museum of Art presents ‘Isamu Noguchi: “I am not a designer”’, marking the artist’s first design retrospective in almost 25 years. Taking its title from a declaration made by Noguchi in 1949, the exhibition explores the artist’s engagement with design throughout his career. The presentation will feature around 200 objects, many of which have never or rarely been exhibited before.

‘Isamu Noguchi: “I am not a designer”’ coincides with the 50th anniversary of ‘Playscapes’, the only one of Noguchi’s playgrounds built in the US during his lifetime, commissioned for the city of Atlanta by the High and the City of Atlanta Parks Department.

The exhibition will travel to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA (September 2026 –January 2027) and the Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY (February – June 2027).
