The Mennello Museum of American Art presents ‘Isamu Noguchi: Metal the Mirror’, a travelling exhibition of nine galvanised steel sculptures on loan from the Art Bridges Foundation. Created in 1982–83, the sculptures belong to a series of 26 that Noguchi made during this period.

The sculptures’ reflective surfaces and patinas were produced by dipping the metal in boiling zinc. Through this series, Noguchi considered the duality of his experience as a Japanese American, commenting: ‘Here where finally opposites come together, I see a surprising purity. Stone is the depth, metal the mirror. They do not conflict.’
