Howardena Pindell produces new commission for The University of Texas

Posted:

The University of Texas’s public art programme ‘Landmarks’ has announced that a major new work by Howardena Pindell will be permanently installed on the glass façade of the George I. Sánchez building.

The work is titled Autobiography: Circles and marks the artist’s first exterior public work and public art commission in Texas. The George I. Sánchez building is the main entry for the college and will be viewed by approximately 15,000 students, faculty, staff and visitors each day.

Landmarks will celebrate the unveiling of Autobiography: Circles with a free public lecture on 23 April 2026, led by Valerie Cassel Oliver, curator of modern and contemporary art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and a curatorial contributor to the project.
