Opening 2027–28

Dia Art Foundation has acquired a suite of 21 works by Howardena Pindell, which will be presented at Dia Beacon in a long-term exhibition opening in 2027–28.

Pindell began exploring abstraction and collage during the 1970s, whilst holding a Curatorial position at MoMA. It was during this time that she started her signature ‘spray dot’ technique and produced innumerable ‘chads’ – tiny discs of paper refuse – that would later comprise her ‘Hole Punch’ works.

The presentation of works at Dia Beacon will focus on this period in Pindell’s career, featuring large-scale paintings from the mid- to late 1970s that capture the breadth of her influences, from textile design to feminist politics. These works highlight Pindell’s meticulous yet exploratory processes, illuminating a pivotal moment in her artistic career.
