Cai Guo-Qiang presents a two-part project for the Normandie Impressionniste Festival, comprising a solo exhibition and a daytime fireworks performance, curated by Philippe Platel. Marking the centenary of Claude Monet’s passing, this year’s festival invites artists to respond to the legacy of the painter and his artistic inquiries into perception, time and nature.

‘Radiance of Spring’ features a new series of gunpowder paintings inspired by Monet's garden at Giverny, created by Cai in dialogue with the iconic architecture of the abbey and the landscape of Normandy.

Vernon, France
A monumental daytime fireworks performance, titled Radiance of Spring: Sky Painting for Normandie Impressionniste, will mark the opening weekend of the festival, in which drone-launched blooms of coloured smoke will transform the sky into a canvas, along the banks of the Seine in Vernon.
