Museum SAN presents a new solo exhibition by Antony Gormley titled ‘Drawing on Space’, marking the largest show of the artist’s work in Korea to date.

Featuring a selection of sculptures and works on paper, this presentation explores how sculpture can stimulate the mind, awaken the senses and heighten awareness. Viewers are invited to actively engage with the works and the surrounding space, creating a dynamic and immersive experience.

Challenging the space’s architecture with suspended aluminium rings, the exhibition’s centrepiece, Orbit Field II, encourages viewers’ kinesthetic awareness through movement.

Also on view in ‘Drawing on Space’ is Liminal Field. Comprising seven sculptures, it replaces the anatomically described body with one that evokes the geometry of the bubble.

These sculptures create a constellation of human spaces within a larger spatial field, prompting reflection on where the body’s boundaries begin and end.

A selection of works on paper from throughout the artist’s career explores recurring themes present in the sculptures – the relationship between body and structure, the interplay of mass and space, and the sensory experiences of touch and sight.

These investigations into the body and spatial awareness are reflected in Ground, a new permanent installation at Museum SAN. Created by Antony Gormley in collaboration with architect Tadao Ando, Ground is unveiled alongside the opening of the exhibition.

Museum SAN (Space Art Nature) is located in the hills of the Oak Valley in Wonju, South Korea. The museum opened in 2013 and was designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
