Antony Gormley at KMSKA

Antwerp, Belgium

KMSKA presents an exhibition of works by Antony Gormley, curated by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev. Titled ‘Geestgrond’, the exhibition explores the depth of Gormley’s oeuvre whilst interacting with works from the museum's permanent collection. Unfolding across the museum’s halls and extending outdoors, ‘Geestgrond’ responds to the architecture of the building.

The title ‘Geestgrond’ refers to a type of light soil that formed shortly after the Ice Age, found mainly in northern Belgium and areas of the Netherlands. The title also carries symbolic meaning, with ‘geest’ referring to the soul or the inner self.
