In association with Wells Art Contemporary and Project Factory CIC, Wells Cathedral are collaborating with Antony Gormley to produce a new cast iron work, exhibited on the West Front of the cathedral. Occupying an empty niche below the North-West tower, Gormley's work will be sited near other sculptural human forms that reference Old Testament stories, the resurrection, kings, bishops, angels and apostles. Identifying the location for its visibility, Gormley has said his new sculpture might be considered 'the book at the end of the bookshelf', which 'attempts to invoke the feeling of being isolated and exposed on this corner of a Gothic masterpiece'.
