German artist Anselm Kiefer discusses alchemy, architecture and painterly processes with Tim Marlow, White Cube's Director of Exhibitions. Kiefer encourages subjective responses to his epic oeuvre which is more concerned with painting as a journey, with procedure and conceptual agility than with the idea of 'finite' end results. Discussing his exhibition at White Cube Bermondsey, based around the theme of alchemy, the German artist touches on his interest in French writer Fulcanelli, in the absurd and its curious relationsip to the logical, and in alchemy's surprising relationship to the painterly process.
