Published to mark Tracey Emin’s presentation at the 52nd Venice Biennale, Borrowed Light commemorates the artist’s exhibition at the British Pavilion, where she was only the second British female artist to present a solo show. Demonstrating Emin’s typically autobiographical approach, in which she draws upon fundamental themes of love, desire, loss and grief, this publication arrays the paintings and sculptures that she presented at this pivotal moment in her career.
The publication features a foreword by Andrea Rose, the commissioner of the British Pavilion in 2007, who also interviewed Emin for the book. Writer-priest Toby Forward provides a personal reflection on the resonance of Emin’s self-portraiture, whilst Rudi Fuchs, the acclaimed art historian and curator, uses the painting Fuzzy Sex (2006) as an entry point into the artist’s handling of realism. Illustrated throughout, this is a rare opportunity to own a historic record of a moment in Emin’s decorated artistic career.
