Antony Gormley - One For All

This edition by Antony Gormley marks an event that took place on 29 May 2008, in Yokohama, Japan. On this day, 482 people gathered spontaneously to create an image of a human figure as an act of solidarity in support of those without a voice. The project highlighted the plight of international poverty and coincided with TICAD (Tokyo International Conference for African Development), an event which informed the 34th G8 summit held in Japan in 2008.

Commemorating this large-scale event, One For All (2008) is the result of a collaboration between Gormley and Comic Relief, where all profits from the sale of these etchings are donated to the charity. Depicting the human figure as a silhouette of negative space within a plane of oxidised brass, this work treads the boundary between presence and absence, singular and collective, that is emblematic of Gormley’s examination of human experience.
