Sarah Morris’ practice incorporates paintings, films, site-specific wall paintings and sculptures which reflect her interest in networks, typologies, globalisation and architecture within the chain of cities she focuses on.

In London (2012), Morris references an iconic symbol of the metropolis, the Big Ben clock. Her use of this archetype serves as a means to explore the power structures that determine the movement, progress and fabric of the city. As in her paintings, she creates an architecture of forms, bringing together elements of the city to reflect its multi-layered and fragmented narratives. Creating a new language of place and politics, Morris sees her works as self-generating, open to interpretation, motion and change, giving the viewer a heightened sense that they are part of a larger system.

In 2012 Morris created a poster for the Paralympic Games, and was commissioned by Art on the Underground, Transport for London, to make a major site-specific piece in the arches of Gloucester Road Tube Station. Both projects were based on the original ‘London [Big Ben]’ series.
