The Bass Museum of Art presents ‘Painting into Space’, an exhibition featuring works by the Lebanese-born artist Etel Adnan (1925–2021). Highlighting the intersections of painting and architecture that shaped the artist’s practice, the exhibition’s focal point will be a monumental ceramic mural based on a sketch completed by Adnan in 2020.

A leading figure in contemporary Arab American art and literature, Etel Adnan’s multidisciplinary practice encompasses painting, drawing, mural and tapestry. Through an interplay of geometric abstraction – circles, squares and triangles – the artist’s vibrant fields of colour reflect her lifelong engagement with landscape and spatial environments.
