The FLAG Art Foundation, New York presents a solo exhibition by South African artist Cinga Samson from 16 October. Installed on its 9th floor, the exhibition presents a new body of work that comprises over 20 paintings all produced over the past year. Entitled Iyabanda Intsimbi / The metal is cold, the exhibition explores the undercurrent of violence and unease which runs through daily life. Retaining some key elements of his practice - stern figures, lush settings and sombre moods - Samson’s work subsumes this tragedy producing elegant portraits and group scenes.
