Beatriz Milhazes has worked with London-based design studio BAM to create her first book for White Cube. A record of Milhazes’s solo exhibition, ‘Rio Azul’ at White Cube Bermondsey, London in the spring of 2018, the book brings together painting, installation, sculpture, collage and her first ever tapestry; a unique, major piece created in collaboration with master weavers at Pinton Mill in France.

The range of work that made up the exhibition is reproduced here in full and includes to scale details, as well as installation shots and a gatefold of the monumental tapestry, creating a comprehensive overview of Milhazes’s current practice. An extended essay by Luiza Interlenghi, Associate Professor at the University of Rio de Janeiro, provides insight into the artist’s background and art historical points of reference, while a conversation between Milhazes and the British painter Glenn Brown offers a unique understanding of process and medium.

Glenn Brown is a British artist. Luiza Interlenghi is Associate Professor of Art History at the Pontifical University of Rio de Janeiro and a writer and curator.
