The Whitechapel Gallery presents ‘Theaster Gates: A Clay Sermon’, a major solo exhibition that is part of an ambitious collaboration with the Victoria & Albert Museum and Serpentine dedicated to Gates’ clay practice. Showcasing ceramic objects, sculptures, installations, film and studio materials from the past two decades as well as new commissions, the exhibition explores Gates’ transformation of clay and its role as a powerful metaphor for his socially-engaged work and wider artistic practice.
