Miroslaw Balka at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Podgorica

Posted:

9 October 2026 – 18 January 2027

Podgorica, Montenegro

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Podgorica presents ‘1978/2026/Otwock+’, an exhibition surveying almost five decades of Miroslaw Balka’s practice. The presentation is on view across two of the museum’s venues, Petrović Castle and Perjanički Dom.

The exhibition takes as its point of departure Otwock, the town near Warsaw where Balka grew up and continues to live and work. Throughout the artist’s practice, Otwock has served as a place where personal memory, family history and Europe’s traumatic past intersect.

Bringing together early figurative works with sculptures, drawings and installations from across the artist’s career, the exhibition also includes in situ works created in Podgorica. The works address personal and collective memory through themes of migration, family, community and historical violence.

Rather than following a linear chronology, ‘1978/2026/Otwock+’ forms a constellation of works, periods and experiences from across Balka’s life and career.
