The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (MSN Warsaw) presents an exhibition of works by Julie Mehretu, titled ‘Kairos / Hauntological Variations’. An expanded chronology that reflects the artist’s ongoing practice, the exhibition brings together paintings and drawings from different periods throughout Mehretu’s career, from analytical diagrams of the late 1990s to recent large-scale works.

The exhibition’s title references the ancient Greek notion of Kairos, meaning a critical turning point, alongside Derrida’s hauntology – a state where the present is haunted by ghosts of an unresolved past. The works on view capture this tension, acutely attuned to the disorientating and constant transformation of the political moment.

The exhibition is curated by Szymon Żydek (Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw). It follows a previous presentation curated by Susanne Gaensheimer and Sebastian Peter at Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf, which took place in 2025.
