Josiah McElheny at The Kitchen

The Kitchen presents a new exhibition of works by Josiah McElheny, titled ‘Instrument Object’. Bringing together sculpture, painting, installation and drawing created from 2014 to 2026, the presentation features works that have not previously been exhibited in New York City.

In ‘Instrument Object’ McElheny seeks to translate music into visual form, transforming The Kitchen’s space into an installation of image, sound, motion and light. Throughout the exhibition, the artist pays homage to 20th and 21st century musicians and composers, Pauline Oliveros, Lucia Dlugoszewski, Julius Eastman, John Cage, Milford Graves, David Grubbs, Big Mama Thornton, Joe McPhee, Wes Montgomery and Sun Ra.
