David Hammons and Ibrahim Mahama announced as Art Basel 2025 Medallists

David Hammons and Ibrahim Mahama are among 36 medallists of the inaugural Art Basel Awards. Chosen by an international jury of experts, the Art Basel Awards are the first global honours dedicated to recognising and advancing excellence across the contemporary art world, celebrating visionaries from across the industry.

Hammons is recognised as an Icon Artist, while Mahama is honoured in the Established Artist category.

Later this year, the medallists will vote among themselves to select up to 12 Gold Medallists. Winners are selected from nine categories, including Institutions, Allies, and Storytellers, as well as artists at different stages of their careers.
