Theaster Gates at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston

The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston presents ‘The Gift and The Renege’, a solo exhibition of works by Theaster Gates.

Showcasing large-scale paintings, sculptures and installations, the exhibition sheds light on the seen and unseen dynamics of Freedmen’s Town in Houston’s historic Fourth Ward.

Throughout his socially engaged practice, Gates has deepened our understanding of Black labour, materials, place and community, revitalising underrecognised neighbourhoods by combining urban planning with a multifaceted art practice.
