Ibrahim Mahama has been awarded the 2026 Arnold Bode Prize in Kassel, one of Germany’s most respected honours in contemporary art and an award closely tied to the legacy of documenta.

The award recognises Mahama’s expansive artistic practice, which has consistently interrogated histories of labour, migration and global economies through installations and material interventions that are vast in scale and ambition.

The honour was awarded following a recommendation by the Board of Trustees and formal approval by the city’s magistrate.
