Ibrahim Mahama at Museum of Contemporary Art – Skopje

Posted:

15 October – 14 November 2025

Skopje, North Macedonia

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) – Skopje presents a major solo exhibition by Ibrahim Mahama, opening this autumn. The presentation will take the form of a large scale, site-specific work installed on the museum’s façade. The work is comprised of over a thousand jute bags, which are commonly used for the transport of goods, primarily in the economies of the Global South. Bearing traces and histories of labour and exchange, the work highlights themes of globalisation, migration, exploitation and economic inequalities between nations.

Founded in 1964, MoCA – Skopje was established as a platform for artistic exchange and international support, and stand as a testament to the principle of solidarity. Mahama’s monumental installation renews the museum’s ethos, affirming art’s role in society and its potential to reflect acts of human compassion and establish connections of solidarity.

The exhibition is Mahama’s first solo presentation in North Macedonia and will be on view until November 2025.
