Opening Event: 8 July 2025, 7pm

9 July – 2 November 2025

Vienna

In early July, Ibrahim Mahama opens a new solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Wien in Austria. Titled ‘Zilijifa’, the presentation explores the material legacy of colonialism, post-colonialism and industrialisation in Ghana. It develops Mahama’s research into the history of the Ghanaian railway network and sees the fulfilment of his long-term plan to deconstruct, transport and exhibit a full-size diesel locomotive.

Spanning the first floor of the Kunsthalle's Museumsquartier building, the exhibition presents a new body of work including installation, photography and video. ‘Zilijifa’ marks the artist’s first solo exhibition in Austria.

Opening Event

8 July 2025, 7pm

To celebrate the opening of ‘Zilijifa’, Ibrahim Mahama will be in conversation with Baerbel Mueller, professor at the Institute of Architecture, University of Applied Arts, Vienna.
