Opening on 10 July at White Cube Mason’s Yard, Minoru Nomata’s debut solo exhibition in London features new works that expand upon the artist’s ‘Continuum’ series, first exhibited in Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery in 2023. Solitary architectural structures rise from low horizon lines, ascending toward the sky as Nomata turns his attention from the astral towards the subaqueous, depicting immense hydrological formations – icebergs, frozen waterfalls and glaciers – interacting with manmade mechanical interventions. In this series, Nomata places mortal endeavour in contention with the sublime forces of nature, a preoccupation visible throughout his practice.
