Gazed at by Nature

Surveying Yoko Matsumoto’s career-defining pursuit of luminosity, ‘Gazed at by Nature’ brings together paintings and works on paper from 1985 to the present day. Attesting to a lifelong negotiation between two worlds, Matsumoto initially worked with water-based acrylic paint for its likeness to East Asian sumi ink, before going on to master the medium of oil paint so integral to Western art history and tradition.

Marina Rheingantz

In September, White Cube will open an exhibition of paintings by Marina Rheingantz (b.1983 Araraquara, Brazil), marking the artist’s first solo presentation in Korea and coinciding with the 2026 edition of Frieze Seoul.
Theaster Gates
4 November – 18 December 2026
White Cube presents the first solo exhibition in Seoul of new works by artist, archivist and curator Theaster Gates (b. 1973 in Chicago, US, where he lives and works).
Drawing from conceptual formalism, sculpture, space theory, land art and performance, in his practice Gates seeks to instigate the creation of cultural communities and catalyse social engagement that leads to political and spatial change.
