‘Maresias’ at Turner Contemporary showcases the works of Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes. Featuring 20 key paintings and 5 works on paper, the exhibition highlights Milhazes’ career over the past 40 years and stands as a major highlight of the gallery’s programme.

Since gaining recognition in the 1980s as a foremost figure in the Brazilian art movement Geração Oitenta, Milhazes is known today as one of the most prominent abstract artists of her time. Her vibrant, large-scale abstract canvases present a fascinating interplay between planned construction and spontaneity. With nature as a central theme of the artist’s work, ‘Maresias’ focuses on humanity's relationship with the environment and speaks to Turner Contemporary’s unique coastal location, as well as the gallery’s dedication to contemporary ecological issues.
