White Cube Early Careers in the Arts Internship Programme

Posted:

Following the success of the Early Careers in the Arts Internship Programme launched in 2025, White Cube will open applications for the second cohort on Tuesday 30 June 2026.

The Early Careers in the Arts Internship Programme now offers two internships, one in London and the other in New York, each providing a distinct pathway into the working life of an international gallery. The London internship focuses on exhibitions, sales and operations, while the New York internship offers an introduction to sales and the secondary market. While these pathways and departments will remain similar in structure to the first cycle, specific placements may vary for the upcoming intake.

Over eight months, you will gain valuable, practical skills that can support a future career in the arts, while building meaningful relationships with the team at White Cube.

We particularly welcome applications from people who have not yet had the opportunity to work in the art world. While a demonstrable interest and some knowledge of contemporary art and the White Cube programme are essential, we do not expect you to have an existing network - this internship has been developed to help you build one.

Applications for the 2026 intake will open on Tuesday 30 June 2026 at 12pm via the Careers page, and will close on Monday 20th July 2026 at 6pm.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview in July and August, with the two successful applicants confirmed by the end of August. Both internships will commence in early October 2026.

London Internship: Exhibitions, Sales and Operations

This pathway offers hands-on experience across three essential areas of White Cube's day-to-day activity: Primary Sales, Exhibitions and Gallery Operations. From exhibition planning and artist research to supporting the sales team, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of how a major commercial gallery operates.

Over the course of the internship, you will:
  • Collaborate with the Sales team to assist with client research, prepare artwork offer packs and presentation materials, manage sales data, and develop an understanding of how relationships with collectors are nurtured over time.
  • Work alongside the Exhibitions team on the logistical and creative process of producing shows, from budgeting and installation scheduling to preparing artist dossiers and attending exhibition kick-off meetings.
  • Gain insight into the operational side of the gallery, working with the teams responsible for curating viewing room presentations across both London spaces.
You will also receive training in programmes including SketchUp, gain exposure to art fairs such as Frieze London, and take part in a programme of monthly exhibition research designed to broaden your awareness of the contemporary art landscape.

New York Internship: Sales and Secondary Market

Set within one of the world's most dynamic art market contexts, and as a new addition to our programme for 2026, this New York-based pathway offers an immersive introduction to the commercial workings of an international gallery, with a particular focus on the Sales and Secondary Market departments.

Over eight months, you will develop a nuanced understanding of how works of art move through both primary and secondary channels, gaining direct experience of the relationships, research and processes that underpin a gallery's commercial activity.

Over the course of the internship, you will:
  • Support the Secondary Market department by conducting in-depth object and market research, compiling exhibition histories and provenance documentation, tracking auction results, and contributing to the preparation of sales presentations and proposals.
  • Work closely with the Sales team to assist with client research, prepare artwork offer packs and presentation materials, manage sales data, and gain a first-hand understanding of how long-term relationships with collectors are built and maintained.
  • Develop familiarity with the New York gallery programme and the wider international art market, building knowledge that contextualises the day-to-day work of both departments.
You will also gain exposure to art fairs such as TEFAF and have the chance to view the Contemporary Auctions.
