Sergej Jensen at the Consortium Museum, Dijon

Posted:

4 February – 22 May 2022

Dijon, France

A new retrospective of Sergej Jensen’s work is now open at Dijon’s Consortium Museum, charting his work from the 1990s to the present. Frequently incorporating textiles onto which he sews, sutures, erases and patches up, Jensen paints with all the possibilities materials have to offer. He pushes at the physical support through an economy of means that leaves space for overlapping and chance alterations. While employing the principle of the readymade, Jensen’s work is distinct from other more self-conscious appropriations: he does not endeavour to destroy or deconstruct, rather simply point to a hole in the history of painting.
