White Cube Seoul
White Cube is a leading contemporary commercial gallery which represents over 60 international artists and artist estates and has locations across three continents. With established galleries in London. Paris, West Palm Beach, Hong Kong and soon New York, White Cube is now expanding to Seoul in the autumn.
White Cube Seoul marks the gallery’s second public space in Asia. From 5 September – 21 December 2023, the gallery hosts its inaugural exhibition, ‘The Embodied Spirit’, showcasing seven artists whose work probes the mysteries of human existence and considers the inseparable nature of body and psyche.
Coinciding with the exhibition, White Cube returned to Frieze Seoul from 6 to 9 September. Taking place at COEX, the fair marked the second edition of Frieze Seoul and the first year in which White Cube has residency in the city.

‘The Embodied Spirit’ brings together works which explore themes of philosophy, metaphysics and what motivates human behaviour.
Featured artists include Tracey Emin, Marguerite Humeau, Christine Ay Tjoe, Louise Giovanelli, Berlinde de Bruyckere, Katharina Fritsch and Lee Jinju.

Marguerite Humeau
Marguerite Humeau’s work lingers on the intersection between life and death, and in this film the artist speaks of how ‘a lot of my work is about speculating on worlds and ecosystems that don’t exist anymore’.
Christine Ay Tjoe
From her studio in Bandung, Indonesia, Christine talks about her interest in drypoint etching and how her painterly practice is fundamentally based on drawing.

Louise discusses how she works and why she values the medium of painting.

White Cube Seoul
Situated in the heart of the bustling Gangnam-gu district and spanning over 300m², White Cube Seoul marks the gallery’s second public space in Asia. Located in close proximity to Dosan Park and cultural institutions, including the SONGEUN Art and Cultural Foundation, the striking, ceramic-encased building is also home to the Horim Art Centre, a renowned private museum with an extensive collection of Korean modern art and antiquities.
