Ibrahim Mahama creates a site-specific installation in Malta as part of Valletta 2018, the European Capital of Culture.

Mahama presents a new monumental work which fills the rooms of Pixkerija, an old fish market located on the Valletta waterfront. The exhibition’s title ‘Dal-Bahar Madwarna’ derives from a quote by philosopher Gilles Deleuze, "The island is what the sea surrounds", and invites artists to present works exploring the idea of ‘islandness’.

Curated by Maren Richter, the exhibition brings together installations, performances and public interventions displayed throughout the country by 25 established and emerging artists.
