Virginia Overton at Goldsmiths CCA

Virginia Overton's solo exhibition at Goldsmiths CCA, London, features new works that respond to the architecture of the space, a former industrial building renovated in 2018 by the multidisciplinary collective Assemble. Also presenting sculptures that have now become hallmarks of her practice, the exhibition brings Overton's processes of industry and repair to a London audience.

Titled 'Animal Magnetism', the exhibition incorporates steel donated by Anthony Caro to Yorkshire Sculpture Park for use by future generations. Now weathered with age, the material forms the basis of Overton's new, room-sized chime installation of suspended shards and cut-off pipes. Caro's incorporation of steel into his work resonates with Overton's exploration of the play between weight and lightness, form and material, and the inherent physicality of the industrial commodity.
