Liza Lou at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

29 Apr 2009

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is excited to announce the loan of Liza Lou’s ‘Continuous Mile’, which will be on permanent display at the museum for the next two years. The work, a mile-long length of rope, woven wholly out of glass beads and twisted in to a freestanding sculpture, evokes a commanding presence whilst also emitting meticulous detail. Created in South Africa with the help of 44 highly skilled Zulu bead-workers, the resulting effect generates a collection of subject matters which reference warfare, military oppression, vulnerability and confinement, whilst remaining grounded in feminist approaches and a commitment to Minimalism.
