Franz Ackermann created this limited edition print as part of a set of three editions to accompany his exhibition Home, home again at White Cube, Hoxton Square in 2006. Each work focuses on a common motif in the system of collected signs and symbols through which Ackermann’s investigates his complex ideas about globalization, travel and cultural consumption. In the context of his paintings, drawings and installations, simple images of trees, a gas-guzzling automobile, or a close-up of organic material become reoriented and reorganized. Mixing art historical precedents from German expressionist woodcuts to mass-media advertisements, these works invite the viewer to look again at elements from the city at large in a new and energetic way.
