Tell Tale Heart is Abigail Lane's response to Edgar Allan Poe's story of the same name. The story describes a self-satisfied murderer who, when detectives come to investigate the murder, he has them sit above the very spot where he has buried the body of his victim. However, as the minutes pass, he is driven mad and confesses as he hears the beating heart of the dead man. Lane's piece for 'You Dig the Tunnel, I'll Hide the Soil', a wooden box with a viewing hole in which one sees not only the infamous heart, but also an inquisitive eye looking back at you. This limited-edition photograph captures the instant of shock as one looks into the space of the work.
