Gary Hume
London Plane Leaf

The London Plane Leaf drawings were created in 1999 in conjunction with Hume's exhibition at the Whitechapel gallery. 1999 was the year that Hume represented Britain at the prestigious Venice Biennale, and these unique works on paper reflect the artist's interest at the time - nature and everyday subjects - through the simple image of a London Plane leaf. The leaves are rendered in Hume's characteristically schematic line, which featured as prominently as ever in the Water Paintings series presented in Venice. The works are executed in indian ink on fine paper and each is signed and encased in light wooden frame.
