Ellen Altfest

Ellen Altfest received her BFA from Cornell University and her MFA from Yale University School of Art. She attended the Skowhegan School of Painting in 2002. From 2003-4 she was awarded a studio at the Marie Walsh Sharpe art foundation in Tribeca, New York. In 2006 she received a Richard and Hinda Rosenthal foundation grant from the Academy of Arts and Letters. She has had solo exhibitions in New York in 2002 and 2005 at the Bellwether Gallery and in London in 2007 at White Cube.

Altfest's work has been written about in various publications including The New York Times, Time Out New York, The New Yorker, The Village Voice, Artforum.com and Modern Painters.

In addition, her work was featured in The Saatchi Gallery’s 'USA Today' exhibition, 2006 and has been included in exhibitions at Artists Space, NY; the Boston Center For the Arts and Guild & Greyshkul, NY.

Altfest has attended numerous residencies including the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusettes; Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, New York and the Dorland Mountain Arts Center in Temecula, California. She has curated several exhibitions in New York including the critically acclaimed 'Men' at I-20 Gallery NY, NY in 2006.
